Suggested Options
If budgeting or other considerations prevent the purchase of a total system, including a DART® Cable Analyzer, buy only a PFL Power Fault Locator. Any one of the PFL series is an excellent thumper to use the classical high voltage surge method of fault locating. In this case, the cable is surged with the PFL and the cable route is walked listening for the thump. Since a filter and coupler are built in, a DART can be easily added to the PFL any time in the future.

Optional Cable Reel Assemblies
Megger offers three optional cable reel assemblies for use with the PFL Systems. The CBL125 and CBL125RM extend test lead length with an additional 125 ft (38.1 m) of both ground cable and high voltage cable.

The CBL125 is a portable configuration with the CBL125RM, both rack mounted assemblies typically used with vehicle mount systems.

Megger Optional 125 foot (38.1m) high Voltage/ground cable reel rack mounted assemblies.

This addition simply involves physically mounting the DART and plugging in two cables. Adding a DART Cable Analyzer provides time domain reflectometry (TDR) capability plus the pre-location methods of arc reflection and surge pulse reflection to your fault locating capabilities. These additional tools result in faster fault locating and less overall stress to cable during the fault locating process.

The CBL125 and CBL125RM use metal reels and are rated to 20 kV. All three can be used with the PFL-1000, -4000 and -5000 systems.

Dart Cable Analysis System
AVOLink communication software is provided to allow downloading or uploading of cable images from/to the DART and a PC. DARTView, included in the software, allows viewing of cable images on the PC and replicates the DART operations.

Features and Benefits

  • Operating software
The DART features Windows® based operating software for ease of use.
  • Touchscreen interface
unique touchscreen interface helps facilitate ease of use.

The Biddle Dart Analysis System. This unique touchscreen interface simplifies the operation.

The unique touchscreen interface on the DART simplifies operation

  • Streamlined user interface
user friendly, simplified control functions were developed in collaboration with utility service crews.
  • Multiple mounting options
choose between a variety of DART Cable Analyzer mounting configurations.
  • Auto-ranging
the DART software recognizes the cable end and automatically selects the optimum range.
  • Auto-fault distance
when the surge condition trace is captured, distance to the fault is displayed automatically without operator interpretation.
  • Built-in assist mode
using the basic arc reflection mode, the user is led through the steps of operation by the software.
  • Transflective color display
each trace is displayed in a different color on a liquid crystal display using both transmissive and reflective modes suited to lighting conditions. In dark conditions, a backlight is used and in bright light, reflected light is used.
  • Extended mode
or the advanced user, the extended arc reflection mode allows manual adjustments of settings.

Mounting Options
The DART Cable Analyzer is designed with the flexibility to select the mounting configuration which best fits your needs and the analyzer display which is most appropriate for your service crews.

Option HG
The HG option supports the PFL-1000 system configuration. Utilities doing URD loop sectionalizing will find this system configuration appealing. The DART and PFL-1000 will fit into the bin of a utility service truck.

Option SA
Option SA provides a convenient stand-alone package for those customers who only require an analyzer. The standalone DART can be used with existing cable fault systems or can be used to upgrade existing arc reflection systems.

Option 4K
Option 4K is offered to customers who are looking for a self contained, portable cable fault system. This mounting option puts the DART analyzer into a convenient lid assembly that mounts directly to the PFL-4000 chassis.

Option 5K
A popular solution to many utilities is vehicle mounted equipment. Option 5K mounts the DART into the 19 inch cabinet used with the PFL-5000 Power Fault Location System.
